Not in New England? Don't Miss NERGC! Cheap Fares to Boston.

Travel Zoo , the travel deal experts, are reporting CHEAP airfares to Boston, MA for a limited time.  They are reporting fares as low as $41 each way to Boston on major airlines.  The Holiday fares are available until January 4. The New England Regional Genealogical Conference ( NERGC ) is being held April 6-10, 2011 in Springfield, Massachusetts.  It is one of the premier, yet affordable, genealogy events on the East Coast. There will be over 60 speakers including headliners John Philip Colletta, Ph.D. and Paul Milner. Visit the NERGC website for more specific information on the program and venue.

Final Call for Syllabus Queries

Exploring New Paths to Your Roots continues the tradition of printing genealogical queries in the NERGC Syllabus. The several hundred who attend will see your question, and hopefully solve your brick wall(s), and you don’t need to attend the conference to submit syllabus queries! Cost remains the same as in the past - $5 per query, or three queries for $10. (Maximum of 50 words in each query.) You do not have to attend the conference to submit queries, and there is no limit to the number of queries you may submit. Please type or print each query on a separate 8.5” x 11" sheet of paper. Preferred format asks you to use standard abbreviations, and have your dates written as 27 July 1927 (counted as one word). Show birth; death; marriage - in that order - with location of event shown before date, and all known information stated before the question is asked. LIBRARIANS/TEACHERS DAY PROGRAM CHANGE

Kathleen M. Reilly, Supervisor, Local History & Genealogy Department, The Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield, Massachusetts will be presenting “Strategies for Making Archival Records Accessible to Genealogists” from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7 in lieu of the previously-announced session with Elise Bernier Feeley. During her session, Kathleen will present an overview of strategies used at the Berkshire Athenaeum to make scrapbooks, pamphlets, manuscripts, maps, and photographs more accessible to genealogists, students and other researchers. Additionally she will discuss how the use of new digital technologies and targeted collection arrangement at the Athenaeum has streamlined the research process. All librarians and teachers who work with family history patrons or genealogy-related research materials will benefit from Librarians’ and Teachers’ Day.
